2026 Volvo ES90: Tall Electric Sedan Blends Safety With Style

Volvo's new ES90 remixes the brand's familiar design elements and technologies to create something exciting and new.

Blending the silhouette of a sedan with the upright proportions of a sedan, the new ES90 reminds me of the Polestar 2.

Tthe ES90 is larger in every dimension than its Scandinavian cousin, closer in scale to the Tesla Model S than the Model 3.

With just over 7 inches of ground clearance, the ES90 offers a very SUV-esque seating position and visibility.

Out back, the EV's liftback design adds utility and makes it easy to load bulky items.

My favorite design elements are the LED segments integrated into the rear window, which allow the EV to keep the C-shaped rear light signature of Volvo sedans while echoing the vertical tail lamp design of its SUVs.

Three powertrain options will be offered, including Single Motor, Dual Motor and Dual Motor Performance configurations.

Like the EX90 SUV, the ES90 will feature a roof-mounted lidar sensor which -- along with dozens of radar, camera and ultrasonic sensors -- power the brands commitment to future-ready driver aid technology.

Neither US pricing nor availability has been announced, but we expect to learn more when preorders open sometime in the next few months.
